Senior Portfolio Course High on Huntington Popularity List
One of the most popular courses at Huntington High School continues to be Senior Portfolio, which is offered through the school’s business department. It’s a half-credit fall semester class with the stated goal of helping students prepare for their college experience and life beyond high school.
“This year’s Senior Portfolio course is off and running,” business teacher Suzi Biagi said. Coursework typically includes college searches, the application process, college essay writing, resume development, scholarship availability, internships, employment tips, interviewing skills, investing, insurance, credit and an assortment of other life skills helpful to new graduates.
As its name indicates, the course is open to seniors only. It is not offered in the spring semester. The business department works in collaboration with the high school College Counseling Center, assisting students as they complete their college application essays. The class also includes self-evaluation surveys.
The course has many devoted advocates among alumni and parents, who believe it provides a variety of useful “real life” applications and who find its curriculum to be both interesting and informative.
“The second quarter of this class will focus on financial literacy, post- graduate employment, law, housing and insurance and, of course, college and employment interviewing skills,” Mrs. Biagi said. “Whether college or employment bound, this course is for you!”
