Kindergartners on the Move at Flower Hill

White Post FarmsThere has been little down time at Flower Hill Primary School for kindergarten students, who have been busy this fall studying in and out of classrooms.  The youngsters recently took an off-campus trip as well as playing host to members of the Huntington Fire Department and one of its powerful trucks.

The kindergarteners traveled to popular White Post Farms, an attractive destination for those looking to celebrate the fall months and harvest time in particular.  Students toured the facility, taking in the sights and sounds, stopping by the petting zoo, attending a puppet show and going on a hayride.

“They also spent time picking their own pumpkin,” teacher Noel Harper said. The visit combined numerous academic areas and helped the children gain a better appreciation for Long Island’s history and heritage, especially its tradition of farming and farm animals.

White Post FarmsThe visit from the Huntington Fire Department proved to be just as popular as the big red truck parked in front of the school elicited the expected whoops and hollers.  The youngsters had an opportunity to see and touch dozens of equipment items and inspect all areas of the huge truck.

“Probably their most exciting part was holding and turning on the fire hose,” Ms. Harper said.  The strong spray of water caused the kindergarteners eyes to open wide.  There just might be a few volunteers-in-the-making in the bunch.
