Finley Athletic Program Participation Remains Sky High
One of the constants at J. Taylor Finley Middle School has been an almost astonishing level of participation in the after school athletic program. That tradition is continuing this fall as more than one-third of the enrollment is a member of one of the eight teams.
The eighth grade football roster is the school’s largest, with 48 players. The newly created seventh grade gridiron team is also popular with 35 student-athletes on the field. The Finley girl’s soccer squad boasts 35 members and the boys’ soccer team has 31 players. Field hockey (28 players), girl’s swimming (21), co-ed cross country (20) and girls’ tennis (16) also have high levels of interest.
In all, there are 234 students spread over Finley’s fall teams. The total includes 114 on three boys’ teams, 100 on the four girls’ squads and 20 on the one co-ed team.
