Fall Athletic Turnout Strong at Huntington High School

Huntington High School athletic teams have seen good turnouts for the fall season.  The 20 teams are filled with 328 student-athletes according to a report compiled by Director of Athletics Georgia D. McCarthy.

The nine boys’ teams have 161 participants and the 11 girls’ squads are filled with 167 athletes.  Junior varsity football has the largest roster with 37 students listed.  Varsity football has 29 players.  The two high school boys’ soccer teams have a combined 44 players while the girls’ teams are filled with 37 athletes.

There is increased interest in the varsity and junior varsity girls’ tennis teams.  The two squads have a combined 30 players, the largest turnout in several years.  There is also a JV boys’ golf pilot program this fall.  Seven young golfers are working with a team supervisor two days a week at the Cold Spring Hills Country Club along with the golf pro there.

The high school field hockey program has 32 players on the two team’s rosters.  The girls’ volleyball program is populated by 21 athletes.  With so many teams and so many students participating, space is at a premium both indoors and outdoors.  Some teams practice or play off site.
