Blue Devil Boys’ JV Soccer Rolls to Nine Wins behind Caballero
Tom O’Leary had to like what Christian Caballero showed him all fall. The Huntington junior varsity boys’ soccer coach knows he has a budding star in his freshman forward who scored 13 goals and helped lead the Blue Devils to a 9-4-3 mark.
Caballero, who captained the team along with back Joseph D’Esposito, forward Kevin Goodrich and sweeper Petros Kalandukas, is certainly talented. He produced four two-goal games and scored in nine different contests. He’s explosive.
On the other end of the field, freshman Edward Connell and sophomore Greg Meyers combined to produce seven shutouts in goal. The 20-player squad was a very solid group. In addition to Caballero’s scoring heroics, Goodrich found the net five times and Anthony Catarino and Cesar Moreira scored three goals apiece, respectively.
The Huntington boys’ soccer program is a much different entity than it was just a few years ago. The Blue Devils are working on something special and have the players in the pipeline to compete with Suffolk’s best.
Blue Devil Notes: James Okula, Brian Carino and Jeff Argueta also scored goals during the season . . . Huntington outscored its opponents 27-16 . . . The team’s four losses included a pair to Sayville (3-0, 2-0) and one each to Harborfields (1-0) and Eastport-South Manor (2-0).
