Leslie O’Brien Named to All-State Soccer Team

Leslie O’Brien saw her exceptional high school soccer career wrap-up in a perfect way as the Huntington High School senior earned a spot on the All-State soccer team.

O’Brien scored six goals and notched seven assists for the Blue Devils this past fall, effectively carrying the team during stretches of the season.  Huntington finished with a 5-5-2 league mark.

“Leslie possesses both athletic and academic talent,” Blue Devil soccer coach John Walsh said.  “It’s very rare for a player to be named both All-County and Academic All-County as Leslie was this year.  She’s a great kid and a great player.”

O’Brien is headed to Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore where she intends to play soccer.  She is interested in studying medicine and over the years has earned the respect of teachers, coaches and teammates in Huntington.

“I think she is going to do very well at Johns Hopkins,” Walsh said.  “She’ll fit right in and is going to really help them.”

The full All-State soccer team is posted on the website of the New York State Sportswriters’ Association at www.newyorksportswriters.org.
