Jefferson Jeans for a Cause Benefits Family Service League
Jefferson Primary School faculty and paraprofessionals helped spread some holiday cheer by contributing to the Family Service League’s holiday boutique through the school’s Jeans for a Cause program.
Each month a different charitable initiative is supported by the group, which contributes money into a fund in exchange for wearing jeans to school on Fridays. In December, Jefferson donated toys along with cash, which was used to purchase gift cards.
“December is filled with holiday cheer for many of us,” Jefferson teacher Pattye Sweeney said. “However, Jefferson staff knows it is also a time for giving and remembering the less fortunate.”
The holiday boutique program at the Family Service League has become vital as the need for it has grown in the community over the years. Parents struggling to make ends meet financially are able to choose an unwrapped gift for their child, helping to make the season a little bit more joyful.
Ms. Sweeney coordinates the Jeans for a Cause program with assistance from Jefferson social worker Gisselle Soto. “I am so proud to be a part of the Jefferson staff,” Ms Sweeney said. “Everyone here is so willing to assist the Huntington community whenever called upon. They show such heartwarming holiday spirit.”
