First Quarter Dooms Blue Devil Boys’ Basketball
Commack used a strong first quarter to put the Huntington boys’ basketball team in a deep hole that it never did manage to dig itself out from as the Blue Devils dropped a 63-50 decision in a Brentwood Holiday Tournament consolation round game.
Commack bolted a 21-5 lead and was never threatened again. Huntington tried to claw its way back into the game after trailing at halftime, 39-22 and managed to cut its deficit to a dozen points after a 15-10 spurt in the third quarter, but it wasn’t enough.
Senior Alex Brown led the Blue Devils with 17 points and junior Teddy Calligeros pumped in another 14 as Huntington lost its second consecutive non-league game.
Blue Devil Notes: Junior Matt Duffy was named to the All-Tournament team . . . Alex Brown connected for a pair of three-point baskets . . . Anthony Brown, Calligeros and Duffy also hit from downtown.
