Blue Devils Nipped, 51-49

In a Brentwood Holiday Class semifinal match-up that came down to the final seconds, the Huntington boys’ basketball team was edged by North Babylon, 51-49 despite junior Matt Duffy’s 18 points.

Huntington grabbed an early 12-10 lead after one period of play, but a North Babylon run put the Bulldogs up at halftime, 27-23.  The two teams battled it out in the second half, with neither able to gain a clear advantage.

A pair of free throws with less than a minute remaining proved to be the difference for North Babylon, which effectively won the game at the foul line as the clock ticked down.

Duffy’s offensive outburst included a pair of three-point baskets.  Huntington also received scoring punch from Peter Delfino (10 points), Anthony Brown (8), Teddy Calligeros (4), Steven Merilan (4), Alex Brown (3) and Lucas Forster (2).

Blue Devil Notes: Alex Brown also sunk a three-pointer . . . The Blue Devils outscored the Bulldogs in the second half, 26-24.
