Players Keep Heads up despite 1-13 Record

Despite a 1-13 record, members of the Huntington varsity girls’ volleyball team kept their heads up and that’s a credit to both them and their coach, Carrie Postel.  The hard working group of 10 players was simply outplayed.  If the “will-to-win” could have carried them to victories, the Blue Devils would have been 14-0.

“This year’s team has a lot of talent,” Postel said.  “They were a nice group of girls to coach.  Even though our record doesn’t show it, they worked hard each and every day to try to improve their skills.”

Huntington was captained by junior Sarah Paar and senior Amanda Bosco.  Paar and sophomore Lauren Visbal were rewarded for their fine play with post-season All-League honors.

“Sarah was the most consistent server on the team,” Postel said.  “She averaged four aces a game and was always good for a few points.”  The coach said that Visbal led the team in blocks, averaging three per game and was also tops in kills, with four a game.

“Our best team accomplishment was beating Amityville in five games,” Postel said.  “We won the first two games and then sat back and lost the next two.  They then had to step up to the next level and play tough to win the fifth game.”
With eight of 10 players returning next fall, Postel hopes the program can finally turn the corner and become a consistent winner.
