Huntington School Board Notes
At their August 20 meeting, Huntington School Board members accepted the resignations of special education teachers Nicole Pultz (Aug. 9) and Michelle Maltempi Sept. 14), dean of students David Sklar (Aug. 16) and foreign language teacher AnneMarie Romeo (Aug. 13). Long-term substitute high school English teacher Julie Bisom-Ritter resigned effective July 10.
Maryann Daly was appointed chairperson of the SEARCH program, effective August 27. She has been a SEARCH teacher and coordinator for many years.
Jack Abrams was reappointed as curator of the district’s School Heritage Museum. Kenneth Card was appointed director of adult and continuing education. Dr. Card is also the principal of Woodhull Intermediate School.
Retired principals Jack Abrams, Anthony Barresi, Lois Markland and Peter Sepez were approved to work as substitute administrators during the 2007-08 school year at a per diem rate of $350.
Frances Cangemi was appointed a senior clerk typist at Huntington High School, effective August 20. Ruth Santiago was hired to work as a dual language aide at Jefferson Primary School.
Linda A. Macolino and Florence McCoskery retired as teacher aides at Huntington High School, effective July 1.
J. Taylor Finley Middle School aides Kaitlin Himmelstoss and Mary-Anne McPeck resigned their positions, effective July 1. Finley food service worker Maria Noon resigned effective July 31.
Aides Tammy Birt (Flower Hill), Paul Blackwell (Huntington Intermediate) and Judith Chappel (Woodhull Intermediate) were each approved to return from a leave of absence.
Bids for interscholastic athletic supplies were awarded to Absolute Fencing Gear, Inc. ($1,501.10), Aluminum Athletics Equipment, Co. ($57.15), All-American Sportswear ($403.20), Anaconda ($844.70), Aztec ($6,398.20), Longstreth Sporting Goods ($6), M-F Athletic ($506.15), Neff Company ($9,971.25), Passons Sport Supply Group ($3,221.04), Port Jefferson Sporting ($42,160.75), South Shore Outdoor Stores ($3,740.15) and Varsity Spirit Fashions ($2,218.45). A total of 13 vendors submitted bids to the district.
Winters Brothers Recycling Corp. was awarded the bid for refuse removal. The company will charge $98,280 for regular pick-ups. Cavanagh Electric Inc. won the bid to provide electrical services at various rates depending on the specific work. Tiden-Huntington, Inc. was awarded the bid for vehicle repair at an hourly rate of $35 and a 10 percent discount on parts.
Appco Paper & Plastics Corp. won the bid for foam lunch trays with a price of $18.87 per case. The company was one of two bidders. A request for proposal was awarded to the Roy K. Davis bus company to provide van services for the 2007-08 school year.
Five companies were awarded bids to provide custodial supplies to the district.
David Abrams and Mia Chong were authorized to work as Summer Tech #1 music advisors. John Pagano (English) and Michael Jannace (social studies) were approved as alternate high school teachers, effective April 25.
