New York Hall of Science Honors Maryann Daly

The New York Hall of Science and the Siemens Foundation is recognizing Huntington SEARCH teacher and program coordinator Maryann Daly with a 2007 Siemens Science Teacher Initiative Award.  The prestigious honor is presented to only ten New York metropolitan area teachers each year.

“Your dedication to science is evident in the work you do and the passion that you bring to it,” wrote Preeti Gupta, New York Hall of Science senior vice president for education in a letter to Mrs. Daly.  Ms. Gupta said the veteran Huntington teacher received the award for having “shown exceptional commitment to children” along with having “demonstrated leadership in science teaching” and having “worked closely with the Hall to enrich the lives of others.”

The award will formally be presented to Mrs. Daly and the other recipients at a dinner and ceremony at the Hall on September 20.  The award will take the form of a trophy.  The Hall will also provide a trophy case to house the honor for display purposes in the Huntington School District.

Mrs. Daly partnered with the New York Hall of Science this past year, utilizing a variety of its resources and instructors to enrich elementary grade level science study in the Huntington schools.

The Siemens Foundation was established in 1998 and bills itself as a national leader in math and science education.  It provides about $2 million annually in scholarships and awards.  Siemens believes that “by supporting outstanding students today, and recognizing the teachers and schools that inspire their excellence, the Foundation helps nurture tomorrow’s scientists and engineers,” according to its website.
