New Huntington Teacher Snapshot Profiles

Huntington School Board members have approved numerous teacher appointments at their last two meetings, refilling faculty vacancies created by a variety of circumstances, including retirements, leaves of absence and resignations to work elsewhere.  When school reopens in September, administrators are confident that the district will be at full strength again.

Three recent appointments include:

Scott Leonardi

Scott Leonardi was hired to work as a long term substitute at Flower Hill Primary School from September 1 through January 25, 2008.  He will serve as a classroom teacher.

Mr. Leonardi graduated from SUNY College at Cortland in May 2003 with a Bachelor’s degree in geography.  He obtained his teacher certification at SUNY College at Old Westbury in December 2004.

Prior to his most recent appointment, Mr. Leonardi has worked as a per diem and long term substitute in Huntington School District schools, including stretches at Flower Hill, Southdown and Woodhull.  He has also worked as a sales associate at Home Depot since May 2003.

Lauren Friedrich

Lauren Friedrich was appointed as a long term substitute compensatory math teacher at Huntington Intermediate School.  The term of her appointment runs from September 1 through January 25, 2008.  She will be filling in for a teacher out on a child care leave of absence.  Ms. Friedrich has worked in Huntington since February 2007.

Ms. Friedrich earned undergraduate (marketing/management) and graduate (childhood education) degrees at Long Island University in 2002 and 2006, respectively.  She has worked in the Oceanside school district as a math teaching assistant (January – June 2006) and as a permanent substitute in the East Rockaway school district (September 2006 to February 2007).  She has also worked as a math, science, social studies and ELA tutor in East Rockaway.

Theresa Duffy

Theresa Duffy will work at Southdown Primary School as a long term substitute classroom teacher during the 2007-08 school year.  She has been working in a similar capacity in the district since September 2005.

Ms. Duffy obtained her Bachelor’s degree at SUNY College at New Paltz in May 2000 in elementary education.  She graduated from Touro College in January 2005 with a Master’s degree in elementary/special education.  She previously worked as an elementary school teacher at PS 5 in Brooklyn from September 2000 to June 2005.
