Board of Education Goals for 2011-12
- Show measurable improvement in student performance (AYP) at all buildings and graduation rates at the high school, leading toward removal of pertinent schools from identified lists.
- Commence shift to the Common Core curriculum while providing appropriate rigor and individualization in classrooms at all levels.
- Develop a fiscally responsible and transparent budget given current economic restraints and conditions, maximizing efficiencies while maintaining the integrity of programs and services offered at all HUFSD schools.
- Improve public perception of HUFSD by highlighting successes through outreach to community members and groups.
- Establish a climate of mutual trust within the Board of Education and among the Board, administration, faculty and staff, town government, district residents and community groups.

2009-10 Goals
- Develop a two-year district financial plan taking into consideration the need for capital improvements and anticipated future reductions in state and federal funding.
- Develop a schedule whereby the high school and middle school principals and district directors will report to the Board of Education at least once a year on academic progress within their school or discipline, including a report from the executive director of special education and student support services on indicators related to disproportionality.
- Develop a multi-year instructional technology plan.
- Develop a plan to house the expanding elementary dual language program.
- Develop a concrete plan to address the critical issue regarding space in all schools.
2008-09 Goals
- Establish an ongoing dialogue between the Town of Huntington and the Board of Education and administration to more effectively allow us to address the various town-related issues that impact our school district.
- Develop a schedule whereby the principals and directors will report to the Board of Education at least once a year on academic progress within their school or discipline.
- Encourage and make available technology to facilitate electronic communication between teachers and parents.
- Develop a plan to respond to public commentary, with an appropriate response, whether it is a statement of fact or existing board policy, or an intention to place an item on the agenda for discussion at a future meeting.
- Develop a concrete plan to address the critical issues regarding space in all schools.
- Proactively work toward developing a school budget for 2009-2010 with a 4% expenditure cap.
- Continue to actively support the ongoing efforts in education for nutrition, health and wellness within our school district.
