Director's Page

Carmen Kasper is Huntington’s Director of Foreign Language, ESL and Bilingual programs.  She has succeeded in securing significant sums of grant monies to enhance the programs and services offered to ESL and bilingual students during her time in the district. Carmen Kasper

Ms. Kasper graduated in 1970 from Federico Villarreal National University in Lima, Peru with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting.  She later studied education at SUNY College at Old Westbury in 1990-91 and earned a Master of Science degree at Hofstra University in 1993 in Teaching English as a Second Language.  She obtained her administrative certification at C.W. Post College in 1994.

Prior to coming to Huntington, Ms. Kasper taught English, kindergarten, first, second and seventh grades in Peru, served as a bilingual resource specialist at Western Suffolk BOCES, as a Spanish teacher at Eastern Suffolk BOCES, and worked as a BOCES regional summer school coordinator.  She has also worked as a fourth and fifth grade Spanish teacher in the Copiague school district’s Saturday Institute. 

Ms. Kasper has spearheaded many innovative programs in Huntington, including after school and weekend classes to assist dual language, English Language Learner and Limited English Proficiency students and their parents.  She has also coordinated such unique offerings as after school Chinese classes for intermediate level students at no cost to the district as a result of her professional relationships in the educational community.
